I remember we were standing in his basement workshop where he often sat in the clutter, conjuring up inventions: a globe that could shift borders in real time, an art project up and down the interstate. A regional manifesto. Lists covered his desk. It seemed to me sometimes he dreamed too hard, like his dreams were doing him in. But he said, “We are safe, this is safe, everything is going great.” The next day he told Dana, “Let’s do it.” And there the money went, traveling down the wires into the “P Cap Fund.” One assumed the wires could be trusted and the money was real.
